Ice-cream at Bannister Downs Dairy!

Ice-cream at Bannister Downs Dairy!

Premium ice-cream brand Azzura Gelati is to become part of the Bannister Downs Dairy family!

We recently bought the 29 year old business from founding owners Nick and Rey Odorisio.

According to Sue Daubney, both the Bannister Downs Dairy and Azzura brands are at the core, quality WA owned and made, and family owned.

"There were so many synergies between each business and our products.  We have both developed local products based on strong family values and a focus of premium quality," Sue said.

“Azzura Gelati is such an iconic brand and we didn’t want this family owned company to disappear. We have considered including ice-cream in our range of products, so our discussions with the Azzura team were very timely and it just made sense,” she said.

"We are going to learn how to make delicious ice-cream from the experts, which is exciting!  We have plans to produce handmade premium products in small amounts."

The founders of Azzura (Nick recently celebrated his 80th birthday) were very keen to find a new owner with similar business principles.

"We are very pleased to continue the tradition of amazing ice-cream and honour the Azzura legacy," she said.

Nick is a Gelati craftsman and has created an extensive range of premium ice-cream as well as handcrafted dairy desserts. He achieved a coveted Grand Dairy Award amongst a huge collection of State and National Dairy awards.

Mat Daubney said the 30 years of experience and commitment within the dairy industry will give Bannister Downs Dairy a fantastic head start when entering the ice-cream market.

"The Odorisio’s are going to hold our hands while we learn how to create premium WA ice-cream.  I have to just make sure we don't eat too much of the product,” Mat said.

Bannister Downs Dairy will be starting the churn in November and hope to have some early products available over the summertime.

"We may need to ask for some help with taste testing, but we don't think that will be a problem," Mat said.
